New Feature: Audio to Text Transcription

We are very happy to introduce a new NestForms feature within the Audio component that makes it easy to turn voice recordings into editable text. This addition is designed to help administrators quickly review and manage responses, especially when working with larger teams or multilingual field staff.

What’s new?

When creating or editing an Audio question in the form builder, administrators will now see a Transcription checkbox. By enabling this option, any audio recordings submitted through the app form can later be transcribed directly within the response.
This means you can seamlessly convert voice notes into text directly within NestForms.

To make things even more flexible, the transcription feature includes a language dropdown. This allows you to select from a number of supported languages, ensuring that recordings made in the field can be converted seamlessly.

Why use transcription?

The ability to transcribe audio directly in NestForms provides several advantages:

• Time saving – No need to manually type up notes or use third-party software.
  
• Searchable records – Text can be searched, filtered, and included in reports.
  
• Clarity – Audio is preserved, but text makes responses easier to review at a glance.
  
• Multilingual support – Recordings can be converted into text in different languages, which is particularly valuable for international teams.
  
• Flexibility – Transcripts can be updated at any time, giving administrators full control over the final record.
  
• Exports - The transcribed text can be exported and displayed in PDF exports, offering a permanent record within the document, even if the original audio file is no longer available.

This feature is ideal for any organisation that collects spoken feedback or detailed field observations. Health and safety Audit teams can quickly transcribe on-site reports, Punch List App responses can have clear written notes from voice recordings. For Market Research Surveys agencies can convert interview responses into editable text. Wherever Job Completion Forms or Final Inspection Checklists involve capturing spoken detail, transcription adds an extra layer of usability to your data.

Getting started

The transcription option is available now to all administrators. To try it out, simply add an Audio component to your next form and tick the Transcription box. Once responses come in, you’ll have the option to transcribe audio, select a language, and edit the text as needed.
